Elgin Dixon named Interim Superintendent of ACSS

Following an executive session, the Appling County Board of Education voted in a split decision between two candidates for interim superintendent due to the retirement of Dr. Janet Goodman, effective September 30. Both candidates were present for the closed session. Board members Mark Green and Nicole Perkins voted in favor of the motion to hire Elgin Dixon. Board members Sabrina Turner and Landry Tillman voted against. As the chairman, Dr. Overstreet voted for Elgin Dixon to break the tie.

A licensed minister since 1998, Dixon is a 1982 graduate of Adrian High School. He furthered his education at Emanuel County Junior College and Savannah State University before enhancing his graduate studies at Fort Valley, Georgia College, and Troy State Universities, where he received his Dual Master’s and an Educational Specialist Degree. Dixon was awarded the Outstanding Educator of the Year Award for Communities In Schools of Georgia in 2000. Dixon retired as the Superintendent of Schools for Twiggs County Public Schools.
