According to Appling County Sheriff Mark Melton, on Friday, July 3, 2026, at approximately 8:51 p.m., deputies responded to a UTV accident on Piney Bluff Road. Upon arrival, deputies assessed the incident and requested assistance from Georgia State Patrol.

On 7/3/2026 at 2051 hours, SFC Brandon Smith #569 and Sgt. Ty Brooks #676 responded to Piney Bluff Road approximately .25 of a mile north of Blarney Road in reference to an accident involving a UTV. The driver of a Trailmaster Challenger 200EUX was exiting a private dirt driveway onto pavement when he lost control. The UTV overturned trapping a 6-year-old
passenger under the vehicle. The passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. SCRTI is investigating. Next of kin has been notified.
This is on ongoing case and is being investigated by Georgia State Patrol SCRT.
