Who is responsible for the decisions we make in life? When that question is asked, the answer is simple; we are. Now there is a mindset that the government or the taxpayers are responsible for other people’s decisions. When you make decisions in life, whether good or bad, you are responsible for the outcome. This younger generation wants to have children and put the responsibility of feeding them on the government. Welfare has become a way of life instead of a temporary safety net to help people out when they fall on hard times.
The SNAP/EBT issue taking center stage on the news opened my eyes to just how many are dependent on this way of life. We need to be asking why 42 million Americans are dependent on the government to feed them. When you give the government the power to feed you, you also give them the power to starve you. This is the perfect example of why socialism and communism do not work, but the progressive democrats are becoming more socialist every day. The masses will overlook that in order to not work and get handouts. Most of the SNAP/EBT benefits are going to young, able-bodied people who can work. You made the decision to have a family, now you make the decision to go to work to provide for your family. When you talk to the elderly, disabled, or people who work for the government in that department they will tell you these are the ones getting very little assistance.
I am all for helping those truly in need, but I am not for helping able-bodied people who can work but would rather live off the government. What happened to integrity and self-reliance? The people who lived through the Great Depression had no one to help them, they had to figure it out. Convenience has killed self-reliance in the country. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says, “For even when we were with you, this we commanded you: that if any would not work, neither should he eat.” 1 Timothy 5:8 says, “But if any provide not for his own, and especially for his own house, he hath denied the faith and is worse than an infidel.” The Bible tells us we are to work and provide for our own as well as help those truly in need.
America really is the greatest country, and it saddens me to see each generation becoming weaker and more dependent on the government. The independent spirit that our founding fathers had is slowly fading. People are willing to trade independence for comfort and convenience. They pass the responsibility of their poor decisions off on other people not realizing it is paving the way for socialism and communism. I was brought up to take responsibility for my actions and that the only person to blame for whatever outcome I had to deal with was me. When you raise up a generation that does not take responsibility for their decisions and actions, this is the outcome.
