By Chloe Jordan, 17, ACHS SENIOR Class of 2026

Chloe Jordan
As a 17-year-old high school senior, I often get asked how I manage to stay on track with academics while preparing for my future career. I’m honored to share my perspective as the first student guest columnist. My dream is to become a veterinarian, and my journey through high school has taught me that success isn’t about being perfect—it’s about staying focused, disciplined, and motivated. Here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way:
1. Stay Organized
Between assignments, tests, extracurriculars, and community service, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. I use a planner and keep a calendar to map out my responsibilities. Seeing deadlines written down helps me avoid procrastination and reduces stress.
2. Ask for Help
Teachers, mentors, and peers want you to succeed. Don’t be afraid to ask questions in class or seek extra help. I’ve found that staying after school for tutoring or forming a study group with friends makes a huge difference.
3. Balance Academics and Activities
While schoolwork comes first, I’ve also made time for extracurricular activities. I have performed with Encore Dance Studios for 15 years, as an ACHS Pirate Cheerleader, and completed clinicals at Padgett Veterinary Medicine. Being involved in clubs and service opportunities has helped me grow as a leader and connect with people who inspire me. Balance is key—you can succeed in the classroom and still enjoy your high school years.
4. Set Goals Early
Knowing I want to be a veterinarian has given me direction. Whether it’s keeping my grades high in science or finding opportunities to volunteer with animals, having clear goals motivates me to push forward. Even if your goals change, having a plan keeps you focused.
5. Believe in Yourself
High school can be challenging, but confidence matters. Surround yourself with positive people and remember that mistakes are part of growth. Each obstacle is an opportunity to learn.
As I prepare to graduate, I’m grateful for the support of my family, teachers, and Gents & Glam. My hope is that other students find encouragement in these tips and remember that success is possible with hard work and determination.
