Donald Weston Sears

Donald Weston Sears, 80, of Brunswick, passed away Monday, September 8, 2025, at Hospice of the Golden Isles.

Don was born October 27, 1944, in Warren, Ohio, to Kenneth Berdell Sears and Harriet Sloan Sears.  Don grew up in Tavares, Florida, graduating with the Class of 1962 from Tavares High School.  He then joined the United States Navy where he served for 6 years during the Vietnam War.  After serving his country with the US Navy, he moved to Charleston, SC, and went to work with IBM as a customer service representative, and transferred to Baxley, GA. After leaving IBM, he worked for Filtered Rosin Products (FRP) in Baxley.  He then became a co-owner of Independent Office Services, an IBM dealership in Glennville.  After retirement from IOS, he was elected Chief Magistrate Judge of Appling County, where he served for 12 years until his retirement in 2010.

He was very active with Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scout Master for Troop 472 for more than 20 years and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award.  He was also a member and Past Master of Holmesville Lodge #195 F&AM in Baxley for over 50 years and had served as its Secretary for over 30 years.  He was also District Custodian for many of those years.  He later transferred his membership to Brunswick Lodge #717.  Coming from Baxley, he had lived in Brunswick for the past 5 years and was a member of Lakeside Community Church.  Some of his hobbies included fishing, hunting, golfing, traveling, woodworking, and ham radio operation.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Eileen K. Sears of Brunswick, sons Carl W. Sears of Brunswick, and Mark B. Sears (Carrie) of Peachtree City, two sisters, and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister and 4 brothers.

A memorial service and Masonic rites for Judge Sears will be held Saturday, September 27, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Lakeside Community Church of Brunswick with Pastor Don Combs officiating.  A visitation for family and friends will follow the service in the church social hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any gifts be made in Don’s name to charity of choice.
