Pure joy

You know, I think the Good Lord puts in the right place at the right time to experience His greatness. Case in point, I travel back and forth to Folkston one to two times per week to work at the Charlton Herald. To be honest, it is a refreshing break from how busy our other company, Gardner Printing Services, has become.
I normally travel Highway 15 through Appling, Pierce, Brantley, and Charlton counties. With the exception of some folks who like to drive below the speed limit, it is not a bad drive at all.

A few Mondays back I was making the journey back to Baxley. As I was crossing the bridge between Brantley and Pierce, over the Satilla River, I witnessed pure joy and happiness. It was a moment I will never forget.

What appeared to be a father and son were fishing on the Pierce County side as I crossed the bridge. I noticed the young boy make a great cast into the Satilla. A joyous father was in the background with his arms raised in the air, jumping up and down in excitement. I couldn’t help but notice how perfect this moment was for the young boy and the man.
The father seemed to be pleased at the cast his son had made. Maybe they had been working on it just a few minutes before I crossed that bridge and the boy had finally figured it out. Whatever the case, the man and boy will always remember that moment in time. It was perfect. Pure joy.

Do you have those times with your family?

Cole walking across that stage at Georgia Southern University to receive his Mechanical Engineering Degree was a perfect moment. I was overjoyed that his hard work and dedication had paid off. I’m not sure if he understands how proud I was of him that day.

Watching Jacob hit his first home run at baseball practice at the old Max Deen Recreation was another proud father and son moment and one I’ll never forget.

I could list hundreds of events just like these that brought joy to our lives. Don’t you wish you could bottle these moments up? In reality, we have these joyful moments in our memories at all times. I need to do a better job of thinking on these moments in time when I’m down or aggravated with life.

I am thankful God gave me a wonderful wife and family. It is not always perfect, but there are those times, like the father and son fishing on the Satilla, it is pure joy. Enjoy these moments with your family and keep them fresh in your mind daily.
