New mural in Downtown Baxley

Downtown Baxley Mural

The Downtown Development Authority of Baxley (DDA) held a regular meeting on Thursday, April 10 at City Hall. The minutes and financial reports from the previous meeting were reviewed and approved.

The first order of business was that the mural project was underway, and Lee Mobley had begun painting that morning. The painting of 1950s Baxley, which is located across from Harvey’s, is now completed.

Next, the board discussed final preparations for the Easter Egg Hunt on April 11. The discussion touched on the importance of avoiding conflicts with school schedules, particularly around spring break and Good Friday. The members also discussed the logistics behind dividing up the eggs for the hunt. The DDA members also planned for Beautification Day, scheduled for the 26.

Natalie Orvin provided an update on the planters and shared quotes for the trees. The board had previously approved spending up to a certain amount, and the $89.99 purchase falls within that limit. The discussion focused on ordering the remaining planters.

The board reviewed quotes for downtown signage and wayfinding, ultimately deciding that the Downtown Development Authority needed a logo and color scheme before deciding which style of sign to purchase and how many. The DDA members decided to gather examples of signage they liked and discuss them at the next meeting.

No action was taken following an executive session, and the meeting adjourned.
