MARILYN JOHNSON BASS

Marilyn Johnson Bass, 71, of Baxley passed away Monday, July 27, 2026 at her residence surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice of South Georgia.
Mrs. Bass was born on October 7, 1954, in Appling County to the late Lannis Johnson and the late Louise Dubberly Johnson. She was an avid gardener who found great joy tending to her flowers. She also lovingly cared for her two cherished cats, Chance and Rusty. Above all, Mrs. Bass loved her Lord and treasured every moment spent with her family. A faithful member of First Baptist Church, she enjoyed singing in the church choir. Her kind spirit, beautiful smile, and devotion to her family and church will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Mickey Johnson and Lamar Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Guyton “Mickey” Bass; sons, Doug (Andrea) Bass and Corey (Melissa) Bass; sister, Janice (Dwight) Courson; brother, Tim (Cindy) Claxton; and grandchildren, Mattie (Justin) Young, Emily Bass, Corissa (Chancey) Vaughn, and Michael Bass. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Fred Anderson and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Bass Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeff Baxley, Randy Kimbrel, Casey Courson, Chris Courson, Dustin Johnson, and Jason Bass.
Honorary pallbearers were the Choir Members of First Baptist Church, Mark and Carol Barnes, Edie Baxley, June Kimbrel, Jimmy and Sally James, Steve and Marianne Rigdon, Mike and Margaret Redwine, Kelly and Joellen Stone, Gail Carter, James and Melanie Clark, Charles and Marsha Hart, Corey and Inez Lane, Scott and Greta Turner, Randall and Donna Odum, John and Whitney Irwin, Jennifer Cargile, Sylvia Harris, Teresa Rogers, and Ralph and Donna Devereaux.
Musical selections were rendered by Tammy and Celeste Anderson, David Williams and the First Baptist Church Choir.
