JEANELLE MURPHY NEWKIRK

Jeanelle Murphy Newkirk, 87, of Hilliard, FL passed away on Thursday, July 02, 2026. She was born in Surrency, Georgia on February 13, 1939, to the late Sue Nell Murphy. She was a devoted member of North Hilliard Baptist Church. A passionate sports enthusiast and loyal Hilliard Flashes fan, she attended every game for an incredible 47 consecutive years. Affectionately known by many as “Nitro Nanny,” she never missed the opportunity to cheer on her children and grandchildren at their athletic events, a reflection of the deep love and pride she had for her family. She also had a heartfelt love for gospel music and was deeply devoted to her community. When asked how she would want to be remembered, she stated as a daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother that loved each of her family members with all her heart. Her greatest wish is that all her children and grandchildren will know Christ as their personal savior.
In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years: George Erwin Newkirk, Sr.; sister: El Donna Frier; brother-in-law, Sherman Frier.
She is survived by her four children: Darlene (Robert) Pike of Hilliard, Sharon Hoose of Hilliard, Butch Newkirk of Hilliard, and James (Whitney) Newkirk of Hilliard; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; many extra grandchildren; aunts: Roberta Thornton of Elizabeth, IN, Sue Murphy, Martha (H.B.) Orvin, and Gene Murphy of Baxley; lifelong friend; Bill Anderson of Welaka, FL; several nieces, nephews, and other family members from Live Oak, FL and Baxley also survive.
The family will receive friends, Monday, July 06, 2026, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home. A service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, July 07, 2026, at North Hilliard Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Buford Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers are Robert Pike III, Brian Pike, Brandon Pike, Daulton Newkirk, Jacob Newkirk, Carson Newkirk, and Tyler Summersil.
