JACK TROY SHUMAN

Jack Troy Shuman, 74, of Baxley passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at St. Vincent’s Riverside Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida, surrounded by his wife and daughters.
Mr. Shuman was born on September 20, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana while his father attended Lincoln Chiropractic College. He moved to Baxley at the age of one and graduated in 1970 from Appling County High School, then went on to graduate from Valdosta State College. He served in the Army National Guard and was a self-employed Insurance Broker. He was an avid golfer, a certified golf instructor and a di-hard UGA Bulldog fan. But, above all, his favorite part of life was being “Poppy.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jack Douglas Shuman and Sallie Wilkes Shuman.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Debra Gibbs Shuman of Baxley; daughters, Ava (Chris) Dorminey of Willacoochee and Ashley (Matthew) Crews of Hahira; grandchildren, Luke Dorminey, Hudson Crews, Lyla Crews and Mila Crews; sister, Dr. Jan (Dr. John) McKay; brother, Jon Shuman; sister-in-law, Tamara Gibbs; niece, Jacquie McKay; and his special fur friends, Tillie & Buddy.
Visitation was held Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Bishop Randy Sellers and Pastor Agnes Sellers officiating.
