JIMMY MAURICE SIMMONS

Jimmy Maurice Simmons, 85, passed away on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Appling Healthcare System while under the care of Regency Southern Care Hospice. Maurice was born in Appling County on September 25, 1940, to the late Joe and Jimmie Lou Simmons. He retired from Southern Company as Superintendent of Administration at Edwin I. Hatch Nuclear Power Plant.
Recently, Maurice made his home at Lakeview Retirement Center, where he truly flourished. The staff of Lakeview, along with the staff of Regency Southern Care Hospice, cared for him with kindness, compassion, and dignity, treating him like family and making him feel as though he were back in the comfort of his own home.
Maurice was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Simmons, his son, Jeffrey Simmons, his brother, Floyd Simmons, and his sister, Mattie Chapman.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Kenny Stone; daughter-in-law, Wendy Simmons; grandchildren, Josh Stone, Jodi (Preston) Baxley, Jessica (Corey) Yawn, Cole (Addie) Simmons and Connor (Claire) Simmons and his great-grandchildren, Koby and Karson Stone, Kate Anna, Jaxon and Maverick Baxley, Case, Emery, and Tanner Yawn, Ella Kathryn and Camille Simmons and Crosby Simmons. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Alice Hughes, of Hazlehurst along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 23 at Zoar Cemetery with the Reverend Rick Brown officiating.

The family will be gathering at the home of Jodi and Preston Baxley, 85 Asbury Church Road.
