There was a recent report on a political race and the results of each candidate’s fundraising for the past quarter, or reporting period, was divulged. One raised over a million, another raised several hundred thousand and then there were a few others that had raised less than $100,000.00. The report made tried to make everyone believe that you should just automatically vote for the candidate raising the most money. Then the thought occurred…wait a minute. If this candidate is raising millions of dollars, does that mean they are the most bought candidate? What promises have they already made to their biggest donors? Maybe, just maybe, we need to start considering this more when we research candidates….
Speaking of politics, don’t you wish we had another party that was just straight shooters? Is there any honesty in politics anymore? The old adage, “How do you know when a politician is not lying?” The answer of course, “When their mouths are closed.” That certainly seems to hold water these days…
Congratulations to our newest GHSA State Champion, Appling County High School’s Bryson Thornton. He is the 2026 106# weight class State Champion Wrestler. This is the first time in an extended period that Appling has had a state champion in the sport. Congratulations young man…
Fires, fires and fires. Our Baxley and Appling County firefighters deserve a break. For the past two weeks they have been fighting blazes all over the county and Saturday was no exception. Please be careful when you are burning debris. I am very thankful for the rain shower we experienced Sunday afternoon; maybe this will help give our heroes a break…
It’s an election year. Don’t forget these dates. If you’d like to throw your hat in the political ring, March 2 – March 6 will be qualifying for all candidates for the 2026 election cycle. The General Primary/Nonpartisan Election will be held May 19. The last day to register to vote in the primary election is April 20. If a runoff is required from the primary, that date would be June 16. The General Election/Special Election will be November 3. The last day to register before this election will be October 5. If a runoff is needed for the general election, that date would be December 1…
Minnesota leaders have lost their minds. Governor Tim Waltz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey are asking for the Federal Government to pony up hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars for what they claim are damages from immigration enforcement operations. Really? This is rich coming from a state that is neck deep in fraud and from leaders who have refused to work with the federal government on immigration…
And finally, thank you Lord for the warmer temperatures headed our way this week. I’ve had enough of the cold weather and I’m ready to come out of hibernation. We could even see some temps in the 80s by the weekend. Daylight saving time is also just around the corner, March 8.
Get out and enjoy the warmer days. But just remember, in South Georgia we can experience multiple seasons in one day. Enjoy it while it lasts.
