On Friday, August 1, the Appling County Pirates Football team traveled to Bacon County to take on the Red Raiders in a Scrimmage to begin their season. The Pirates came up short in the scrimmage, with a final score for the varsity team being 14-28. The fourth quarter was used for both teams to play their JV teams and get them some playing time. A two-yard run put the Pirates on the board first, with Jaiden Knight being the ball carrier for the Pirates. All extra points and kick-offs for the game were not live but were still kicked. Alan Ramirez made the extra point for the Pirates, making the score 7-0 with 9:04 left in the first quarter.

The Raiders scored their first touchdown on a 20-yard pass, and their kicker also made the PAT, making the score tied 7-7 with 3:56 left in the first quarter.
Jaiden Knight scored again for the Pirates, this time taking a direct snap and running the ball in for a 26-yard touchdown. Alan Ramirez once again made the PAT, making the score 14-7 with 10:58 left in the second quarter.

Bacon worked their way up to the Pirate 10-yard line, where they threw a touchdown pass. The Raiders kicker made another PAT, making the score 14-14 with 7:10 left on the clock.
The Red Raiders scored their third touchdown of the night with a 16-yard pass. The PAT was good, making the score 14-21 with 3:52 left in the first half. This would be the score going into halftime.
The last score of the varsity portion of the game was a 30-yard pass by the Raiders into the end zone. The PAT was good with 8:45 left in the third. This would be the final score for the varsity, making it 14-28.

The Pirates will be off this week and will be back on the road traveling to Waycross to take on the Ware County Gators. Travel next week over to Waycross to cheer on the pirates as they go up against a strong 4A school. GO PIRATES!
