Yarp Conaway, Sr., was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was born on October 17, 1937, to the late Josh and Carrie Mae Conaway.
Yarp was a hard worker who labored in pulpwood, farming, and mechanics. He retired from Hazlehurst Mills after many years of being a faithful employee. He enjoyed racing cars, watching sports and wrestling. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Yarp was united in holy matrimony on September 6, 1960, to the late Nellie Clemons and they were married for 62 wonderful and loving years.
Yarp answered the Lord’s call on May 29, 2025. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Conaway; four children, Cathy Newkirk, Tommy Newkirk, Jr., Alvin Conaway and Yarp Conaway, Jr.
Yarp leaves wonderful memories to be cherished by his children; two daughters: Teresa Byrd (Kenneth) and Janice Conaway Phillips (James); three sons: Mitchell Conaway (Felicia), Marvin Conaway and Romanski Conaway (Teishia); one sister: Josephine Walker; one brother-in-law: Lenard Clemons; three sisters-in-law: Bessie Conaway, Rena Frazier and Bertha Hill. Loving memories will also be left in the hearts of his host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral Service was held Saturday, June 4, 2025 at the Macedonia Baptist Church, Graham, Georgia and burial followed in the church cemetery.
King Brothers Funeral Home and Cremations Services, Hazlehurst, were in charge of the arrangements for Mr. Yarp Conaway, Sr.
