They call it progress, and in some ways, that can be a good thing, but I am not sure about it most days. In the almost 46 years I have been on this earth, it seems like things are changing faster than ever; especially in the last 20 years. I think a lot about how things are now versus when I was a kid. Standards seem to be how low can you go while hemlines are getting higher. Everything is at a speed of lightning pace with knowledge at our fingertips. People are running everywhere without any direction. The Bible tells us in Daniel 12:4 that in the last days many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Adam and Eve had the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We are still eating from that tree today in the form of the internet and TV, just to name a couple. I am an old soul and believe in the old ways. With all this newfound knowledge, the old ways are slipping away with few trying to preserve them. I know I cannot stop progress, but I am sure dragging my feet on it. While we can’t live in the past it is crucial to preserve the old ways so our children and grandchildren will know.
It used to be that if somebody gave you their word and you shook hands on it that was a binding contract in itself. Now, a man’s word means nothing, and a written agreement is not worth the paper it is written on. I miss the simple times of standing by your word, strong faith and strong family values. Sunday afternoons used to be a time of families cooking and eating together with cousins and siblings playing outside. It is sad that many children are not close with their cousins, and some barely know theirs.
I lean towards the older ways, and we have always been taught all we have to do is tell the truth and the truth always prevails. Nowadays, that is a past romantic notion, but eventually in the end, the truth will stand when the world is on fire. I wish my precious memories would take me back to the good ole days where good times and good days are not over. Those memories are pure and simple of days gone by but not forgotten.
As we travel the road of life, when we come to a divide, let us not forget to take the old path; the road less traveled, and not throw the old ways out. The Bible tells us about taking the old path as well. “Thus saith the LORD, stand ye in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein and ye shall find rest for your souls.” Jeremiah 6:16 KJV.
