Hewey Drake

Mr. Hewey Dorsey “Drake” Drake was born on May 20, 1945, in Appling County, Baxley. He was the first of eight children born to the late Mr. Willie James Drake and Mrs. Jossie Lou Drake. At an early age, he attended First African Baptist Church in Baxley. Hewey attended the public schools in Appling County. He was drafted in the Military (Army Branch) in 1964. After returning home from his tour of duty, he was employed at Hercules Co. in Brunswick. “Drake” later became an entrepreneur, creating and managing his landscaping business in Brunswick.

On Saturday, May 17, Mr. Drake was called from labor to reward.

Drake was preceded in death by his parents, Willie James and Jossie Lou Drake; brothers, James David Drake, Edward Drake, and Clifford Drake; sisters, Ms. Magaline Drake Holmes, Ms. Gwendolyn Drake Powell, and Charlotte Marie Drake; daughter, Keisha Drake and grandson, Zaedyn Corley.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories two daughters: Ms. Cora Lee Van of Baxley and Ms. Brittani Corley of Brunswick; brother: Mr. Carrol M. Drake of Baxley; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service was held for Hewey Dorsey Drake on Saturday, May 24, at Life Cathedral Mission Inc. Apostle Lorraine Drake was the Eulogist for the ceremony and Bishop Larry M. Rayner presided over the ceremony. Musical selections were performed by Ms. Peggy Fletcher, Mrs. Monica Drake, and Mr. K.J. Hill.

Pallbearers for the service were nephews and friends of Mr. Drake. An interment was held at Miles Cemetery in Baxley, and a repast was held at Life Cathedral Mission Social Hall. Final and Sacred Arrangements were entrusted to C.M. Brown Funeral Home.
