Appling County High School’s Art Club recently welcomed a special guest who brought color, creativity, and inspiration to campus. Local businesswoman and artist Laney Tatum visited the club to demonstrate the art of window painting, sharing her expertise with a group of eager student artists.
Led by art teacher Shona Pate, the club gathered to learn from Tatum as she showcased techniques for painting on glass surfaces. She discussed the best materials to use, including types of paint and brushes, and offered tips for creating vibrant, lasting designs. Her hands-on demonstration captivated the students, sparking excitement and curiosity about pursuing art beyond the classroom.
“Laney’s passion for her craft was contagious,” said Pate. “She showed our students that art can be more than a hobby—it can be a career.”
Pate, who leads the Art Club with a focus on connecting students to real-world opportunities, actively seeks to showcase local businesses that center around the arts. By inviting professionals like Tatum, she hopes to inspire students to explore creative careers and understand the value of artistic entrepreneurship within their own community.
Inspired by Tatum’s visit, the students took to the art room windows, transforming them into a colorful gallery of icons representing creativity and artistic expression. From paint palettes and brushes to abstract designs and famous art symbols, the windows now serve as a public celebration of the arts.
Community members are encouraged to drive by Appling County High School and enjoy the vibrant display. The painted windows stand as a testament to the power of mentorship and the lasting impact of local artists on young minds.
