Dr. Omer Milton McLean

Dr. Omer Milton McLean, 91, passed away at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Dr. McLean was born in Folkston, GA, and later moved to Baxley, Ga. He called Baxley home for 64 years and practiced dentistry in Baxley for 43 of those years. He was a member of Baxley First Church. Known by many as “OM” or “Doc,” he was an avid gardener, woodworker, and fisherman. As his son Mitch stated, “The bream in the Satilla River are rejoicing”! Dr. McLean was a member of the Southwest Dental Association and a Life member of the Georgia Dental Association.

Dr. McLean served as a past board member for the Baxley Recreation Department, the Baxley Health Department, the First United Methodist Church, Baxley Federal State Savings and Loan, the Baxley Jaycees, and the Baxley Chamber of Commerce. During his dental career, he provided free children’s clinics through the Baxley Health Department. He also participated in “Christmas in July,” building many entrance and exit ramps for individuals in need.

Preceding him in death are his father, Thomas Hugh McLean, Sr., and his mother, Lucille (Brock) McLean; brothers, Dr. Frederick Lanier McLean, and Thomas Hugh McLean; sisters, Helen Irene McLean, Vanice Inez McLean, and Margaret Ann O’Hearn.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Patricia Ann; sons, Milton Ray (Mitch) McLean of Baxley, Thomas Michael (Mike) McLean, and his wife, Terry. of Baxley; and daughter, Jacquelyn Gazelle McLean (Jackie) of Ft Myers, Florida. Grandchildren, Ksena McCoy, Caleb McLean, and Joseph McLean; great-grandchildren, Joshua McLean, Kirsten McLean, Jackson McLean, Torah McLean, Jed McCoy, and Abe McCoy.

A Celebration of Life Service was held at Baxley First Church on September 2, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation an hour before the service. The Rev. Steve Meguiar and Brother Adam Thomas officiated.

Honorary Pallbearers were Bobby (Winona) Lewis, Dennis (Nona) Altman, Jimmy (Christie) Hardin, Jimmy (Charlene) Allen, Calvin (Sylvia) Crosby, Mike Carter, Larry Callaway, Glynn Stone, Jeff Herrington, Julie Herrington Scarbrough, Kathy Deen, Courtney Tuten, Dorman (Elaine) Tuten, Jeff (Edie) Baxley, and Sandy Warren.
