Jenean Crosby Twiggs

 

Jenean Crosby Twiggs, 90, of Baxley passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, September 13, 2025. A lifelong resident of Appling County, Jenean was a proud graduate of Baxley High School and dedicated her life to education, family, and community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Carlos Fentris Crosby and Beatrice Kimbrel Crosby.

Jenean attended Georgia State College for Women, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  She went on to receive both a master’s degree and a Specialist Degree in Elementary Education from Georgia Southern University.

Her teaching career began at Westwood Elementary School in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.  She later taught at Fourth District School, Baxley Elementary, and Appling County Primary School, retiring in 1995 after 35 years of devoted service.

Jenean was a member of Kappa Delta Pi, Delta Kappa Gamma, the Appling County Retired Educators Association, and the Georgia Retired Educators Association.  She was also a lifetime member of the Pine Forest Garden Club and the Garden Club of Georgia.

Faith was central to her life.  Jenean was a lifelong member of Baxley First United Methodist Church, now known as Baxley First Church, where she also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

Survivors include her loving husband of 69 years, James Twiggs; her children, James Michael (Terri) Twiggs and Carla (Ricky) Livingston; and her grandchildren, James Michael Jr. (Shannon) Twiggs, Andrew (Amy) Livingston, Joseph (Lana) Livingston, Erica (Sonny) Steedley, and Phillip Twiggs.

She is also survived by her cherished great-grandchildren, Ellee Ray, Anderson, Jameson, Michaela, Bentlee, Emarie, Scarlett, and Korey; and her brother, Carlos Crosby, Jr.

Jenean deeply loved her family, her church, and her many dear friends. She especially treasured time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her favorite pastimes included playing the piano, gardening, playing bridge, traveling, and reading cookbooks.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Baxley First Church with the Rev. Steve Meguiar, Rev. Adam Thomas, and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Omega Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were James Michael Twiggs, Jr., Andrew Livingston, Joseph Livingston, Phillip Twiggs, Randy Kimbrel, and Monroe Crosby.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Appling County Retired Educators Association, Pine Forest Garden Club, Comfort Care Hospice, and her special caregivers, Brenda Rozier, Rhonda Mendoza, Tiffany Studstill, Jill Roberson and Kacy Rozier.
Musical selections were rendered by Tripp Hardee and the congregation.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Methodist Children’s Home or to a charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
