The Appling County Pirates hosted the Swainsboro High School Tigers in their home opener at Jimmy Swain Stadium. There was a good crowd for the home opener, but after a hard fight with a good Swainsboro team, the Pirates fell short, losing 0-14.

There was no score at all during the first half of the game. Both defenses were putting up a strong fight and keeping the offenses from getting the ball into the endzone. During halftime, the Pirate fans were able to see the Pirate Brigade perform for the first time facing forward at home. This allowed fans to see how great the show is that the brigade has worked on since the summer. Great Job, Pirate Brigade!

Not long into the third quarter, the Tigers were able to score the first points of the game with a 19-yard run into the endzone. The Tiger kicker made the PAT, making the score 0-7 with 10:01 left in the third quarter.

The only other score would come after the Tigers forced a turnover on downs towards the end of the game. The Tigers received the ball on the Pirate 18-yard line. From there, the Tigers worked their way down to the ten-yard line, where they were able to run the ball into the endzone. The Tiger kicker made the PAT, making the score 0-14 with 1:18 left in the game.
Even though the score says one thing about the game, the Pirates put up a strong fight, coming close many times to scoring, but just coming up a little short of the goal line.

This week is Homecoming for the Pirates, so be on the lookout for many events this week. At the end of the week, the Pirates will host a strong team from DeLand, FL, the Bulldogs. This team was tough last year, and the Pirates could use a big crowd to help them win this game. Come out Friday for this big game, and to see some of the final homecoming events take place. Kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. at Jimmy Swain Stadium. GO PIRATES!
