As she pulled the trigger one last time, Emma Allen secured a spot on the podium as a Bronze Medalist in the American Legion National 3 Position Air Rifle Match. She gently placed her rifle on her offhand stand, exhaled, took another deep breath, and rested her head on her arm. It is hard for many people to imagine the pressure that comes with competing in a national championship like this, but Emma is no stranger to competing on this scale. She has done so for multiple years, and she has shared her skills and talents within the county as well as across the state and nation. Appling County is proud to call her one of our own.
Emma Allen has led the Dexter Allen Post 90 American Legion Sporter Division for two consecutive years. This year, Emma put all her training to the test through two trying rounds of qualification matches to earn a spot among 15 of the best sporter athletes in the nation!
Her qualification rounds started with 427 athletes, with only 27 given an opportunity to shoot in the second round of competition. Making the most of her second round of competition, Emma earned a spot to compete at Hillsdale College in Hillsdale, Michigan for the National Championship Round. The event included a practice day, two days consisting of two matches per day, and 10 shot finals for the top 8 athletes. Emma finished day one on a roll and carried her momentum into day two as the scores to make the finals became very tight. She finished day two in 3rd place, securing her spot as one of the top eight athletes invited to attend the finals. The finals for this match were comprised of 10 shots in the Standing Position with the scores added to the athlete’s aggregate score for the match. Emma put on an impressive final, where she secured the Gold Medal finals score. That score, which was combined with her two-day aggregate, earned her a 3rd Place aggregate score and an Overall Bronze Medal! Emma came home with two bronze medals and a gold medal.
Emma wrapped up her Appling County 4-H Air Rifle Season with a once-in-a-lifetime experience that simply provided an exclamation point to the end of a very successful rifle career!
Over the years as a rifle athlete, Emma has earned her space on the medal podium at five different National Championships and has earned Master 4-H Status, one of the highest honors awarded in Georgia 4-H. She has also represented Appling County 4-H as an Air Rifle Athlete at National 4-H matches, the Army Marksmanship Unit’s Championship Match, the National Rifle Association (NRA) National Championships, the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) National Championship (twice), the Daisey National BB Gun and Air Rifle Championships, the American Legion National Championships, and numerous state and regional matches. Appling County 4-H is immensely proud of Emma Allen and her commitment to continued growth as not only an athlete but as an individual. Please join us in congratulating Emma Allen on her incredible success and representing Appling County so well throughout her air rifle career.
