Hazel Swain Dyal, 92, of Baxley passed away Friday, April 4, 2025 at Pineland Personal Care Home in Hazlehurst under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.

Mrs. Dyal was born January 17, 1933 in Appling County to the late Dude Swain and the late Odessa Yarbrough Swain. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church where she served as the Church Clerk for thirty-two years. Mrs. Dyal was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, James Richard Dyal, a grandson, Robert Edwards, Sr., sister, Opal Swain Carroll and brothers, Doy Swain and Vadlus “Boody” Swain.

Survivors include her daughters, Carolyn (Bobby) Mathews and Linda (Troy) Collins both of Baxley; sisters, Ethelyn (Sammy) Creech and Winifred Mathis both of Hazlehurst; Five grandchildren, Mandy (Jessie) Varnadore, Tina (Greg) Beecher, Shawn Mathews, Andy Collins and Matt (Katie) Collins; and thirteen great grandchildren, Andrea (Lemial) NeeSmith, Rhonda (Rick) Herrin, Kenslee (Tommy) Wood, Trent (Vera) Varnadore, Robert Edwards, Jr., Kayla Edwards, Cara (Haley) Edwards, Trey (Tara) Mincey, Tori (Garrett) Thornton, Bailey Mathews and Trent Mathews, Walker Collins and Wesley Collins; fourteen great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Rev. Pete Aycock, Rev. Jeffery Spell, and Rev. Michael Sapp officiating. Interment followed in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hazlehurst.

Active pallbearers were Ernest Kersey, Cole Harrison, Jimmy McLeod, Jerry Baxley, Greg Beecher, and Mikie Taylor.

Honorary pallbearers were Comfort Care Hospice, Pineland Personal Care staff and all in attendance.

Musical selections were rendered by Rev. Jeffery Spell, Kara Hallman, and Kim Hall.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
