KENNETH GARY GILBERT


We are saddened to announce the death of Mr. Kenneth Gary Gilbert, 79, who passed away on 4 July 2026 at the Appling Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion. Kenneth was born on July 22, 1946, in LaGrange, Georgia, to John William and Mildred Runels Gilbert.
Kenneth’s family moved to Baxley when he was 14, after his parents began working as house parents at Georgia Baptist Children’s Homes. Kenny worked on the farm at the children’s home with his dad for several years before becoming a truck driver. Kenneth worked for Altamaha Oil Company for 30-plus years.  He has traveled many parts of southeast Georgia and northeast Florida delivering Gas. Most on the road knew him by his CB handle “Big-K”.
Kenny was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Baxley for over 30 years. He served on the building and grounds committee, kept the bus in working order, and was an ordained Deacon.
In 1968, at their rehearsal, Kenny married the love of his life, Margaret Weaver. He and Margaret were married for 51 years before Margaret passed away from Cancer in 2020.
In addition to his wife, Kenny was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mildred Gilbert. His brother William Vaughn Gilbert and sister-in-law Nancy Gilbert, his in-laws Lonnie and Lolita Weaver, as well as a brother-in-law Glenn Weaver. One great-grandson, Thomas Scott Edmonds
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter Sheri (Terry) Senters of Baxley, and his son Gary (Tracey) Gilbert of Forsyth. Six grandchildren, Madison (Jacob) Fariss, Kristina (Elijah) Edmonds, and Lexi Senters, all of Baxley. Tucker Gilbert and Charley Gilbert of Forsyth and Lia Senters of Blackshear. Three great-grandchildren, Granger Fariss, Cora Edmonds, and David Edmonds, all of Baxley.  Brothers-in-law Jesse (Selena) Weaver, Lonnie (Camilla) Weaver, Kim (Tonia) Weaver, Carroll (Amiee) Weaver, all of Baxley. Sisters-in-law Gail (Harrell) Lynch and Cathy (Albert) Herrington, all of Baxley. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 7, from 6-8 PM in the chapel of Nobles Funeral Home. Services will be held at Mt Vernon Baptist church on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 10 A.M., with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Reverend Rick Brown will officiate the service with a eulogy by Sheri Senters.
Active pallbearers will be Rusty Weaver, Tucker Gilbert, Gary Gilbert, Terry Senters, Ross Weaver, and Don Padrick.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Encouragers Sunday school class at Mt. Vernon, Delmus Hale, the staff of the Pavilion on C Hall, Hospice of South Ga staff, Brittany Patchen-Gibbs, and Scott Cooper.
