Bonnie Shipes Carter, 84, of Baxley passed away Monday, October 6, 2025 at Hazlehurst Court Care.
Mrs. Carter was born December 5, 1940 in Appling County to the late James Vernon “Bud” Shipes and the late Willard Beasley Shipes. She was a member of Spring Branch Baptist Church and retired from Douglas & Harper Mfg. Mrs. Carter enjoyed fishing, riding her Gator around her yard and loved baking. But her greatest love was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Wallace Carter, and a son-in-law, Felton Nataniel Everett.
Survivors include her daughter, Vickie Carter Everett of Baxley; sons, Henry Van (Lynda) Carter and John Greg (Lori Anne) Carter both of Baxley; brothers, James Denny (Ann) Shipes and Glenn (Donna) Shipes both of Baxley; grandchildren, Vickie Serena Everett (Andy Harrelson), Caitlin (Brad) Lolley, Henry Van “Chip” (Laci) Carter, Kyra Page Carter, Chloe Lane Carter (Dalton Silva), Eleni Michele Cowart, Chandler Ryan (Maci) Cowart, Deacon Elias (Christina) Cowart; and great grandchildren, Harmony Johnson, Adaline Harrelson, Landon Carter, Lucas Carter, Lex Henry Carter, Lynlee Carter, Knox Cason, Brayden Lolley, Kailani Sloan, Carleigh Sloan, Asher Odom, River Silva, Aurora Stark, Delilah Cowart, and Milani Cowart.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 10, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Gill and Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Interment followed in Carter Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Henry Van “Chip” Carter, Jr., Dalton Silva, Brad Lolley, Andy Harrelson, Chandler Cowart, and Deacon Cowart.
Honorary pallbearers were Shirley Medders, Hilda Carter, Pearl Chambers, the staff of Hazlehurst Court Care & Rehab, and all in attendance.
Musical selections were rendered by Rev. Bryan Gill, Roy Williamson, Glynda Reeves, John Branch, Ruby Carter Jr. and Samantha Carter.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
