New head football coach hired for Appling

The Appling County Board of Education voted last week, in a called meeting, to hire a new head football coach for the Appling County High School, Robert Tucker Pruitt. The new coach will be leaving a successful post as head coach in Fitzgerald, where he has coached since 2017. During his coaching career at Fitzgerald his team made the AA State Semi-Finals in 2018, were Region 1-AA Champions and AA State Runner Up in 2020, AA State Champions in 2021, Region 1-AA Champions and State Runner up in 2022, made the AA State Semi-Finals in 2023, and again made the State Semi-Finals again in 2024.
Coach Pruitt has an overall coaching record of 82 wins and only 27 losses during his head coaching career.
His education includes being an honor graduate from Fitzgerald High School, a Cum and Summa Cum Laude graduate from Valdosta State University with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership. He also obtained a specialist degree (teacher leadership) from Walden University.
Coach Pruitt has received numerous accolades during his career including Coach of the Year honors on a region and state level. He has coached both on the collegiate and high school level for several programs, including Georgia Southern University, Valdosta High, Coffee County, and Lowndes County, to name a few.
The community welcomes Coach Pruitt and his family to Appling County.
