JOHNNIE RAY COPELAND


Johnnie Ray Copeland, 88, of Baxley passed away Sunday, January 25, 2026 at his residence.
Mr. Copeland was born August 30, 1937 in Appling County to the late Lawrence Copeland and the late Fanny Marie Hendricks Copeland. He was the last surviving attendant of Red Oak School and proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army. A devoted member of Riverside Baptist Church, he contributed faithfully in many roles throughout the years. He built a respected career as a contractor before retiring and was an active member of Holmesville Masonic Lodge 195 F&AM. Known for his love of golf, he also gave back to his community by serving two terms on the Appling County Board of Education. In addition to his parents, Mr. Copeland was preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry, Jimmy; and five sisters, Juanita, Joyce, Joan, Jeanette and Jackie.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Betty Copeland, son, Tim (Scarlett) Copeland; granddaughters, Alexandria (Justin) Orvin and Sinclair (Justin) Branch; four great grandchildren, Emmaline, Harbor, Isla, and Scarlett; and a great grandson on the way and special nephews and nieces, Keith (Robbie) Davis & Kip (Rhonda) Davis. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. from Riverside Baptist Church with the Rev. Justin McLellan, Rev. Allen Copeland & Rev. Dennie Waters officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Active pallbearers were Gene Mann, Don Aycock, Forest Wildes, Chad Carver, Josh Stone and Ty Davis.
Honorary pallbearers were the Adult Sunday School Class & members of Riverside Baptist Church.
Musical selections were rendered by the Riverside Baptist Church Choir.
Arrangements were under the direction of Swain Funeral Home.
