GENELLA HEWETT BAXLEY

Mrs. Genella Hewett Baxley, 88, born on September 2, 1937, passed away peacefully at the Appling County Pavilion, under the care of Comfort Care Hospice, after an extended illness. She was a native and long-time resident of Jeff Davis County. Genella was a retired seamstress, a member of Liberty Baptist Church of Hazlehurst. She loved sewing, crocheting, her flowers, and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Liza Murray Hewett; sister, Margaret Brewer; and two brothers, Lawrence and Virgil Hewett.
Survivors include her four daughters, Linda Baxley, Freda Baxley, Tonileia Owens (Ken), and Joy Fussell; two sons, Terry Baxley (Tammy) and Joe Alfred Baxley; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews.
A public visitation was held an hour prior to the service. A private family funeral service was held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Nobles Funeral Home with Brother Brannen Pate officiating.
The family received friends at the home of Terry and Tammy Baxley, 8540 Hatch Parkway North, Baxley, GA 31513.
Active Pallbearers are Ashton Baxley, Ken Owens, Jonathan Carter, Adam Kauger, Trent Thrift, Ryan Brewer, Justin Baxley, and Preston Baxley.
Honorary Pallbearers are the staff of the Appling County Pavilion and Comfort Care Hospice.
Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Lumber City.
