Callie Brook Mullis, who attends Altamaha Elementary School, is the fifth-grade and Overall winner for the Satilla EMC Christmas Card Contest. Approximately 2,000 entries from elementary and primary schools were received from the Satilla service area. Grade-level winners and an overall winner were chosen from the submissions, and each received a Wal-Mart gift card.
The theme “Christmas is a time for Kindness” inspired a wide variety of creativity from decorating the Christmas tree, waiting for Santa, playing in the snow, and making cherished memories with the family. Entries were received from Appling, Atkinson, Bacon, Coffee, Jeff Davis, Pierce, Ware, and Wayne Counties. Teachers at local primary and elementary schools throughout the Satilla service area encouraged their students to participate in the annual contest. As the entries were judged, the committee was extremely impressed with the amount of creativity and originality. After judging, the beautiful Christmas cards were sent to nursing home patients to enjoy during the Christmas season.
Marty Mullis, Member Services Manager, said, “We are immensely proud of the winners and all the children who participated in the contest. We would also like to thank the area teachers who encouraged their students to participate in the contest. Satilla EMC is pleased to involve students in our area in this project and look forward to doing so again next year.”
