ACSO Law Enforcement / First Responder Expo
The Appling County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO) hosted the 8th annual Law Enforcement/First Responder Expo at the Appling County Ag Center. Seventy local, state, and federal agencies were represented, and thousands of citizens and students ventured out.
Sheriff Mark Melton says the event began in an effort to bridge the gap between students and law enforcement.
Following an opening ceremony, demonstrations included a Fire Department Propane Fire, GBI Bomb disposal unit/explosion, a multi-agency crash scenario, State of Georgia SWAT takedown scenario, ACSO Taser Demonstrations, Plant Hatch Security Team CAT Tape House Demo, and Camden County Sheriff’s Office K-9. The event concluded with an Onsite correctional FILE push-up competition.
Careers were advertised in numerous sectors including corrections, public safety, and motor career compliance. Military recruiters and agencies were also present, with helicopters and gear on display.
At 1:00 p.m., a dedication ceremony was held to honor Captain Kenny Wright, who was in attendance alongside his wife, Simikia. Captain Wright has been recovering from unexpected medical issues and Sheriff Melton thanked Captain Wright for his 28 years of service with the Sheriff’s Office. “Don’t stop praying for him…” said Melton. “God cherishes our demand for healing for our friend.”
