According to Police Chief Jeffery Taylor, on January 18, Investigator Tonya Carter of the Baxley Police received a 911 call in reference to shots being fired in the area of Simmons Street. When Investigator Carter arrived in the area, she heard numerous shots. Carter then observed a vehicle in the area, and as she began to get close to the vehicle, the driver and vehicle began to flee. A pursuit ensued until the vehicle stopped at a Johns Lane residence.

Three male subjects then fled from the scene on foot. A fourth passenger stayed at the scene. Tyler Scott (driver) was apprehended on Gail Street in possession of methamphetamine, alprazolam pills, marijuana and six unknown pills. James Beasley (a passenger) was apprehended on Beach Road. Derek Perry (a passenger) is still at large.
