Impressive. That is the word that comes to mind about the Appling County Pirate football team’s performance against the Washington County Golden Hawks in the opening round of the AA State Playoffs Friday night at Jimmy Swain Stadium. The team cruised to victory putting up 65 points. Washington managed to score 14 against younger Pirates toward the end of the game.

The Pirates will now move on to the second round and face the Raiders of Northeast High School in Macon. The Radiers finished second in Region 2AA on the season with a record of 8-3 (6-1 in region play). Northeast defeated Worth County in the opening round of the playoffs by a score of 41-27. During the regular season, the team’s three losses came at the hands of Mary Persons, Fitzgerald and Spencer. This will be the first time in the history the two teams have ever faced each other.
