Jerry L. Lightsey, 73, of Metter, and formerly of Jesup died Monday, November 22, 2021. The Appling County native was a Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church member and a former restaurant manager with the Captain Joe’s Restaurants. He loved gospel sings and even played with a country gospel group in Baxley. His parents, Rufus and Agnes Lightsey preceded him in death along with his sister, Veda Nell Griffis and brother, Larry Lightsey.
Survivors include three sons: Jason Lightsey of Kingsland, Jeff Lightsey of Metter and Justin (Erin) Lightsey of Colorado; a sister, Mattie Lou Griffis; two brothers, Ray (Mary) Lightsey and Eugene (Gwenell) Lightsey, both of Jesup; two granddaughters, Allie Lightsey and Jayden Lightsey; a grandson, Dylan Rhoades; a sister-in-law, Cheryl Lightsey of Orlando, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Big Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were family and friends.
Visitation was held one hour prior to services at the church.
