On March 3, 1950 in Baxley the sun rose for James Barney and the sun set on December 1, 2020. He was called home to join his parents, Carlton and Annie Barney. He attended and graduated from the Appling County School System. He was employed 17 years with Wells Sanitation Department and 6 years with Salco Products. He is preceded in death by his sisters, Juanita Barney (Larry), Ophelia Thomas, and Colene Barney, brothers, Tommy Barney, Carlton Barney Jr., Iralee Barney, Bobby Barney, and Joe Barney.

James leaves his memory to be loved and forever cherished by his sons, Terrance Barney and James Barney Jr., both of St. Petersburg, FL, daughters, Lativa (Barney) Oliver and Demetria Brown both of St. Petersburg, FL, sister, Cora Barney-Bell of St. Petersburg, FL, brothers, Robert Barney (Linda) of Rochester, NY, Thomas Barney and Edward Barney (Mary) all of Baxley, grandchildren, Derrick Johnson, Darrius Johnson, Deandre Oliver, Javontae Oliver, DeJon Oliver, and Jalen Barney, all of St. Petersburg, FL, six great-grandchildren. He also leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other loving family members and friends.

A graveside funeral service was held at Hall-Wilcox Cemetery on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. James Hayes giving the eulogy.

Active pallbearers were family and friends.

Floral attendants were nieces.

Musical selections were rendered by Sister Rose Rogers and Brother Lance Newkirk.

Professional services were entrusted to C. M. Brown Funeral Home.
