Mr. Eddie Joe Nekirk, Sr. AKA “DAD”/”GRANDDAD” was born to the parentage of the late Mr. Joe Newkirk, Jr. and Elzira Williams-Newkirk of Baxley, on Ferbuary 2, 1943. He was preceded in death by daughter, Stephanie Newkirk-Thomas, granddaughter, Belinda Faye Newkirk and a special aunt, Stella Oakman. Eddie, 77, passed this life on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Ascension St. Vincent’s of Jacksonville, FL under the care of Community Hospice.
Eddie was a graduate of Appling County School System, Class of 1961. He was an attendee of Morehouse College and served in the U.S. Army. Eddie was employed with the City of Baxley Public Works for over 30 years and Concerted Services of Baxley for over 5 years. He served as a member of St. James AME Church of Baxley.
Eddie leaves to cherish is beautiful memories, wife, Clisten Newkirk of Baxley, 8 children, Marguerite Newkirk of Chattanooga, TN, Monique Newkirk of Brunswick, Leah Byrd, Eddie Joe (angel) Newkirk, JR., Lance Newkirk, and James (Angie) Gibbs, of Baxley, Nathaniel (Amber) Newkirk of Las Vegas, NV and Stanley (Shonda) Gibbs of Surrency, three brothers, Winfred Newkirk, Roy Newkirk of Jacksonville, FL and Edward (Mary) Barney of Baxley, grands raised as own children, Tamara Newkirk of Columbus, Dominique (Jaikeria) Newkirk of Baxley, Layla and Landesha Newkirk of Brunswick, 24 other grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. A special aunt, Wonnie Shields of Jacksonville, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and sorrowing friends.
Funeral services were held on November 14, 2020 at Surrency Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Pastor Willie Cook giving the invocation and Pastor Norris Williams Sr. giving word of comfort. Repast followed at Second Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were Nathaniel Newkirk, Stanley Gibbs, Donte Freeman, Clifton Kersey, Jeremiah Gibbs and Marcus Gibbs.
Professional services were entrusted to C. M. Brown Funeral Home.
