Nobles Funeral Home and Crematory announces the funeral service of Mr. Earl Claxton, 88, who passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022, at his residence. Mr. Claxton was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a native and lifelong resident of Appling County. He always had a dry sense of humor and always said “he was the best-looking man in Georgia.” Mr. Claxton retired after thirty-four years of service with the Georgia Department of Transportation and twenty-five years with DSI at Interfor, formerly Rayonier. 

Mr. Claxton is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Polly Claxton; his parents, Willis and Minnie Morris Claxton; and three siblings, Juanita Brummett, Willie Lee Claxton, and Helen Crosby. 

Surviving are his two children, Tim Claxton (Cindy) and Dianne Shippen (Billi); two grandchildren, Kristen Griffin (Charlie) and Toby Claxton (Heather); and his three pride and joys, his great grandchildren, Riley Claxton, Trinity Claxton, and Daci Griffin; two special family members, Dallas Claxton, and Ruby Vaughn; and his special lady friend, Betty Turner, also survive. 

The funeral service was held Sunday, June 12, 2022, at 3:00 p.m. from Faith Baptist Church with the Reverend Darrel Weaver, Reverend Bryant Bishop, and Brother Chris Nail officiating.

Interment followed in the Friendship Church Cemetery.

A visitation was held Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Nobles Funeral Home Chapel. 

Mr. Claxton lay in state one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Faith Baptist Church.

Interment followed in the Friendship Church Cemetery. 

Active pallbearers were Shaver Lightsey, Michael Hood, Charlie Griffin, Wade Claxton, Jeffery Simmons, and Eddie Cleland. 

Honorary Pallbearers were all in attendance.
