Dorothy Mae Slay Wright was born in Pierce County on May 11, 1938 to the late Eddie Slay and Nellie May Slay Frances. She departed this life to rest from all her labor on September 14, 2021 at the Appling Healthcare System.

Dorothy was educated in the Bacon County School System. She was a graduate of Albany State University. She retired in 1996 after 30 years of teaching with the Appling County School System. She was a member of the Thankful New Jersey Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Wright, her parents, a daughter-in-law, Tarica Wright, three aunts and an uncle who raised her. Corine Stephens, Fannie Mack, Willie Mae Blash, and Willie Mabry Sr., three sisters, Earnestine Williams, Lillie Bell Jones, and Elizabeth Williams, one brother, James Edward Slay, a cousin she raised, Solomon Mack Sr., one sister-in-law, Carolyn Bell, three brothers-in-law, Wilbert Williams Sr., Chester Jones, and Johnny Jenkins Jr., grandparents, Mattie Slay Mabry and John Mabry, and niece, Yolonda Tippins.

Her memories will forever be cherished by her children, Christopher (Shawna) Wright and Dina Wright both of Baxley, grandchildren, Eric, KeyShawn, Makala, Taniya and Logan, extended grandchildren, Troy, Jayveon and Avaraysha, brothers, William Paul Frances of Douglas, James Blash, Larry (Elaine) Blash, both of Miami, FL, and Willie Mabry of Alma, sisters, Delores Moss of Atlanta, Patricia Frances of Douglas, Frances DeShazor of Baxley, Dorothy (George) Riggs of Waycross, Louise (Isaac) Myers of Brunswick, Ruby Jean Taylor of Valdosta, Rosezina (Clark) Williams of Miami, FL and Cleo Sullivan of Brunswick, adopted brother, Ellis Benton, aunts, Mary Johnson and Gladys Brantley, godchildren, Tonya Blash of Miami, FL, Monique Taylor of Virginia Beach, VA and Paul Williams of Baxley, brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Catherine) Wright and Milton Bell, both of Baxley, sister-in-law, Earnestine Jenkins of Baxley, Margaret (James Lamar) Wilcox and Willie Mae (James Lerico) Wilcox, both of Surrency, special friends, Mary Burke, Kathy Warren, Betty Isom, Jackie Edwards, Norma Jean Irwin, Patricia McTier, Gwen Byrd, Denita Maddox and family, Joyce Hall and Shavois Cox. She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.

Funeral services were held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at Old Field Memorial Gardens with the Minister Zackrus Walton presiding. Repast followed in Sleep Inn Hotel Meeting Room.

Actie pallbearers were Eric Hall, Adam Bell, Mitchell Bell, Ennis Bell, Reggie Bell, William Hall, Brad Wilcox, Jaden Tippins, Solomon Mack Jr. and Ray Mack.

Honorary pallbearers were Retired Educators, Appling County Board of Education and former basketball players.

Honorary attendants were nieces, family and friends.

Musical selections were rendered by Reverend Tobias Linder and Prophetess Jacquetta Edwards.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to C. M. Brown Funeral Home.
