Lady Rams softball team win Conference Championship for the third straight season

The Appling County Middle School Lady Rams softball team defeated Arthur Williams Middle School (Wayne County) 6-5 with a walk-off hit in the seventh inning to take the Conference Championship title for the 3rd straight season on Tuesday, October 5. Coming into the game, both teams knew this would be a battle as Arthur Williams and Appling County only had one loss on the season and those losses were to each other.

The game went back and forth through three innings until Arthur Williams went up 5-3 and held that score all the way to the bottom of the final inning. The Lady Rams started the 7th with a leadoff walk by Elle Carver. Brae Shelby stepped up to bat with a base hit, followed by another base hit and RBI from Ellie Atkins. With the game now 5-4, Taylor Branch stepped up to the plate with a hard ground ball, scoring the tying run. With the winning run on third base, 8th grader Alayna Myers came up to the plate and delivered the game winning hit into right field.

Winning has now become a tradition at Appling County as this win makes the Lady Rams BACK-to-BACK-to-BACK Champions! Appling County Middle School faculty, staff, and students extend a special thanks to all of the fans who came out to support these young ladies all year long, especially during this Championship!
