The Baxley City Council met Wednesday, July 8 at 8:30 a.m. During the meeting City Manager Reid Lovett opened up the floor to Baxley Police Chief James Godfrey. Chief Godfrey stated that he was honored to be at the council meeting and to be able to speak to the council. He commented on the current hatred towards law enforcement officers and other issues occurring during these times have made him think about where he is headed in life. The chief stated that he has accomplished many things during his time serving the Baxley Police Department that he is proud of. He thanked the council for being behind him through all that his job entails. Godfrey said he has enjoyed serving Baxley as Police Chief for 32 years and as a law officer for a total of 44 years.
