Appling County Primary School received official notification from Governor Sonny Perdue’s office that they have received the Silver Award this year. These awards from the Governor’s Office exist in two different categories: 1. Greatest Gains on the Criterion Reference Competency Test (CRCT) and 2. Highest Percentages of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards on the State CRCT. ACPS received this award for category two – having the Highest Percentages of Students Meeting and Exceeding Standards on the State CRCT. This simply indicates that ACPS has some of the highest scores on the CRCT in the state of Georgia!

The competition for the Silver Award in the Highest Performance category is impressive according to the Governor’s Office of Student Achievement. Schools who received this renowned award must meet three criteria to be determined winners:

1. Make Adequate Yearly Program (AYP) for two consecutive years;

2. Demonstrate that at least 25% of the students EXCEED standards in all test areas as measured by the state assessments; and

3. Demonstrate that at least 96% of students meet or exceed as measured by state assessments.

Kathleen Mathers from the Governor’s Office states, “It takes the collaborative effort of teachers, principals and parents working with students to reap this level of success and I applaud your entire school community for this accomplishment. Your school is one of only 30 elementary schools in the state of Georgia to receive this award for the 2008-2009 school year.

Principal Scarlett M. Copeland stated that ACPS continues to make superior gains in student achievement and the faculty and staff are to be commended. Their outstanding abilities to lead students to academic excellence are becoming known throughout the state of Georgia and the nation. Together we can continue this excellent trend in education where students reap the greatest benefits.

Mrs. Copeland was also pleased to announce this is the second year in a row that ACPS has received the Silver Award from the governor’s Office. Prior to these awards, ACPS received the Platinum Award two consecutive years from the Governor’s Office for the Greatest Gains on the state CRCT. ACPS continues to make history for Appling County School System by achieving these awards for the past four consecutive years.

Congratulations to the faculty and staff of ACPS on a job well done! Thank you for serving as excellent role models in our state and nation where instruction and achievement has become a trend to follow.
