A number of shoplifting arrests reported

The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by officers of the Baxley Police Department over the past few weeks.

On Jan. 1 at approximately 10:00 a.m. officers answered a call to a North Blvd address in reference to a domestic argument. On arrival the complainant told officers that she and her boyfriend had got into an argument, which led to an assault. Arrested in connection with this incident was Hung Van Nguyen, age 42, of Baxley, on charges of one count simple battery.

Jan. 1 at approx. 1:55 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC office that related to them that a subject had taken an item and left the store without paying for it. Employees attempted to stop the subject, but he pushed pass them and fled from the parking lot on a Suzuki motorcycle. A look out was posted to other units and in a short time the subject; a Richard Anthony Hopkins, age 27, of Baxley, was taken into custody and charged with one count each of theft by shoplifting and disorderly conduct.

Jan. 2 at approx. 1:32 p.m., met with a complainant of SW Park Avenue in reference to an assault and robbery. The victim told officers that he had agreed to meet with the offenders in reference to trading a blue pit bulldog for another dog. The victim told officers that when he met them, one of the subjects hit him in the head with a beer bottle and the other subject hit him with a stick, knocking him to the ground. The subjects then robbed him of an undetermined amount of currency, took his bulldog, and fled on foot. An investigation led to Terell Alexander Mobley, age 17, and Edward Carter, age 17, both of Baxley, being arrested and charged of one count each of robbery and aggravated assault.

Jan. 2 at approx. 9:30 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Susie Blake, age 42, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.

Jan. 3 at approx. 4:02 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Erin Ann Lloyd, age 28, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.

Jan. 5 at approx. 9:30 a.m., met with the resident at a Robin Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that person(s) unknown had entered his home and removed a Century Arms AK47 rifle, a Marlin 22 Magnum rifle, a Remington 870 Express 12-gauge shotgun, a Remington 788 (308) rifle with a Leopold scope, some ammunition, and a Wii console system game. All the items have been entered on the GCIC computer network system.

Jan. 5 at approx. 5:45 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer whom had a subject detained for taking a gift card. Arrested in connection with this incident was Chiharira Elaine Ewing, age 22, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by taking.

Jan. 6 at approx. 1:30 p.m., met with a public works employee at a Copeland Street address in reference to a theft of services incident. The employee related to officers that person(s) unknown had cut the lock off of the water meter and had been using the services without paying for them. Investigation revealed that the address has been vacant for approx. three months. This incident is under investigation.

Jan. 7 at approximately 8:00 a.m., met with a resident at Pines Trailer Park in reference to a burglary. The resident told officers that while he was gone to work, person(s) unknown entered his home and removed some clothing items and an undetermined amount of change.

Jan. 10 at approx. 7:30 p.m., met with a complainant at a Westwood Apartment address in reference to battery. The complainant told officers he and his girlfriend had had an argument and he had walked outside his apartment where two subjects, started beating him and then they fled the area on foot.

Jan. 11 at approx. 8:30 a.m., met with the resident at a Pine Street address in reference to a burglary. On arrival the resident told officers that while she was gone to work person(s) unknown entered her home and removed a 32 inch flat screen Sanyo television.

Jan. 11 at approx. 5:00 p.m., met with a complainant at Wholesale Appliance Depot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime during the night person(s) unknown removed two four-wheelers from out in front of his business. The four-wheelers are described as a blue in color 2006 Yamaha 350, and a camouflage 2006 Kawasaki. Both four-wheelers have been entered on the GCIC network as stolen.

Jan. 12 at approx. 11:40 a.m., met with a complainant in reference to harassing phone calls. The complainant told officers that she had been receiving harassing phone calls on her cell phone and at her place of employment for about a week.

Jan. 14 at approx. 2:00 p.m., answered a call to Harvey’s supermarket parking lot in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that while she was inside shopping person(s) unknown entered her vehicle and removed her purse, which contained personal papers, make up, and an undetermined amount of currency and a child’s pink DS game.

Jan. 15 at approx. 12:35 p.m., met with a complainant at T&M Equipment in reference to a theft. The complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had been removing several pieces of scrap metal from out of the warehouse. After a short investigation, Justin Lamar Davenport, 30, of Hazlehurst, was arrested on one count of burglary in connection with this incident.

Jan. 19 at approx. 7:16 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC Officer whom had a subject detained for taking some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this incident was Ashley Nicole Newsome, 22, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
