I don’t want that job

There are certain jobs that I know I could never do. For instance, I could never be a nurse or a teacher. I admire the people who perform these jobs tremendously, because I know I was not made to be a teacher or nurse.

After watching some reality TV as of late, I have determined there are other jobs I would never want to do.

Take for instance repossession jobs. On one television show, Operation Repo, the team (or family) goes out and repossesses just about any type of vehicle for finance companies. It amazes me at what these people have to endure to recover some of the vehicles. They are attacked, cussed, pepper sprayed, or arrive at a job only to find that a vehicle has been burned or destroyed.

On one episode, the group had to repo an ice cream truck. A lady on the show went up to the truck, bought an ice cream and then got the man in the truck to come out. While she distracted the man, another member of the repo team jumped in the vehicle and locked all the doors. The man actually jumped on the side of the vehicle and was riding on the outside trying to get his vehicle back.

How many of you have watched the show Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe? Now this is a brave man. Mike travels across the country looking for the dirtiest jobs he can take part in. I’ve watched as Mike has helped fix an incinerator-type toilet on a boat to noodling for catfish. What is noodling for catfish? It is basically sticking your bare hands under water in a log or pipe and catching a catfish.

Here are a few other jobs on my list that take courage or dedication to perform:

-Collecting or milking venom from snakes or spiders to help make antivenom.

-Any person that works in any type of mining operation. Miners are some of the bravest and most daring in my book.

-I don’t want any part of artificial insemination (humans or animals).

-Another job at the top of my bravest list is law enforcement and military. The men and women of the military and law enforcement put their lives on the line every single day.

-A job that would take dedication and desire is to work at a morgue.

-Since I have acrophobia, I don’t believe I would want to apply to be a skyscraper window washer anytime soon.

And finally, below are the top ten deadliest jobs in America according to Forbes.com and the Department of Labor statistics:

1. Fishers and related fishing workers

2. Logging workers

3. Aircraft pilots and flight engineers

4. Structural iron and steel workers

5. Farmers and ranchers

6. Refuse and recyclable material collectors

7. Roofers

8. Electrical power-line repairers and installers

9. Drivers: traveling sales/truck drivers

10. Taxi drivers/chauffeurs
