Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.

On July 20, answered a call to Buck Williams Road in reference to damage to property. A campsite where tents were left unattended had been burned. Values of tents were $260.00. Offender admitted to burning the tents because he didn’t know whom the items belong to.

July 23, answered a call to MLK Drive in reference to a theft. Taken from residence was a JVC Flat Screen TV, valued at $2,797.92. Investigation continues.

July24, a complainant came to the sheriff’s office to report a theft on Griffin Road. Taken was a Ruthberry 25 gallon water pump valued at $400.00. Investigation continues.

July 25, answered a call to Harvest Temple Church of God in reference to a burglary. Taken from church was $50.00 in change.

July 26, answered a call to County Farm Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that her son had taken her vehicle without permission and had not returned.

July 26, answered a call to Lawanna Drive in reference to damage to property. The victim stated she found her vehicle vandalized. The passenger window was busted out, glove box destroyed, missing was a checkbook and several credit cards. Investigation continues.

July 27, answered a call to Buckhead Road in reference to a prowler. The complainant heard a noise outside residence and when going out saw a male leaving the area.

July 27, answered a call to Will Sellers road in reference to identity fraud. A complainant stated a satellite dish was ordered in her name, she did not order.

July 28, complainant came to sheriff’s office to report damage to vehicle. Unknown person(s) had damaged door and window area of vehicle while attempting to break into vehicle.

July 28, answered a call to Isaiah Lane in reference to a theft. Stolen from a family farmhouse was a syrup boiler valued at $500.00 Investigation continues.

July 30, answered a call to Lake Mayers road in reference to a domestic. The altercation was between acquaintances. Verlon George Smith, age 39, of Graham, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

July 30, answered a call to Johnny Smith Road in reference to damage to property. An estranged husband tore wires from wife’s golf cart and did damage to yard.

July 31, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to a victim that had fallen from wheel chair and was not breathing. Upon arrival of deputy and EMS, the victim Ronald Gene McGuirt, age 59, of Baxley, was found to have died of apparent natural causes. Coroner was notified and scene was turned over to him.

July 31, answered a call to Dunn’s Lake Road in reference to a phone scam. The caller told complainant she was a winner of $5.5 million dollars and a BMW car. The complainant was told to give bank information to caller and go to Western Union and pay of fee of $90.00 to him then he would mail her a receipt so she would be able to claim her prizes. Please beware of such “Scams”.
