The following are highlights of incidents that were handled by members of the Baxley Police Department.
On June 6 at approximately 6:42 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for removing some items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Mary Kathleen Slayton, age 21, of a Baxley address, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
-June 8 at approximately 11:32 a.m., met with the complainant at Baxley Beverage South located on S. Main Street in reference to a theft. On arrival officers discovered that the theft had occurred on an earlier date in which the offender had concealed two bottles of liquor and left the store without paying for them. Further investigation led to the arrest of Michael Chad Mann, 29, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
-June 8 at approx. 4:00 p.m., met with a complainant at Greg’s E-Z Own located at S. Main Street in reference to a stolen vehicle. On arrival the complainant told officers that he had left his vehicle at the business due to mechanical problems, and later when he returned to check on it, it was no where to be found. The vehicle in question is a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, silver in color, and has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen. On June 10 the vehicle was recovered in Vidalia by members of the Vidalia Police Department along with another stolen vehicle from their area. A juvenile subject has been taken into custody and charged with these thefts. The vehicle has been released back to its owner.
-June 9 at approx. 6:40 p.m., met with a complainant in reference to several counterfeit checks that have been passed on the business account of Miles Berry Farms of Baxley. The checks were made payable to different names and for different amounts, and have been passed to several businesses around Baxley. The Baxley Police Department, the Appling County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are currently investigating these incidents.
-June 11 at approx. 8:00 a.m., answered a call to a Tippins Street address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had stolen her lawn mower from her yard. The lawn mower is described as a push type, and is green in color, and has the model number 96114000409 on it.
-June 11 at approx. 10:10 p.m., met with a complainant at a NFL Drive address in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his 26" Mongoose bicycle from his yard. The bike is painted black on the front half.
-June 13 at approx. 9:38 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for removing items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Bonnie L. Cruz, 29, of Lyons, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
-June 14 at approx. 2:05 p.m., answered a call to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft. On arrival officers met with the LPC officer who had a subject detained for removing items without paying for them. Arrested in connection with this theft was Jackqueline Lee Turner, 20, of Baxley, on charges of one count theft by shoplifting.
-June 16 at approx. 1:30 p.m., met with the complainant at General Insurance Agency located on West Parker Street in reference to damage to property incident. On arrival the complainant told officers that a small car had pulled into the parking lot and collided into a pole in front of the business, and then sped off. As a result of the collision the pole sustained slight damage.
-June 19 at approx. 4:25 p.m., met with a complainant at Pines Trailer Park located on S. Main Street in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had removed his 1986 Lincoln Town car, white in color, that was parked in his front yard. There was no tag on the car, it also had a C.B. antenna in the middle of the trunk lid, and was missing two center caps. The vehicle has been entered on the GCIC computer network as stolen.
-June 20 at approx. 11:10 a.m., answered a call to the South Side Pool located on Walnut Street in reference to vandalism. On arrival the complainant told officers that sometime during the night, person(s) unknown entered the pool area and pushed all four flagpoles and two lifeguard chairs into the deep end of the pool. The flagpoles were concreted inside vehicle tires and were located at each corner of the pool.
-June 21 at approx. 5:44 p.m., met with a complainant at a Moody Street address in reference to a damage to property incident. On arrival the complainant told officers that person(s) unknown had busted out several windows to the house.
-June 21 at approx. 7:00 p.m., answered a call to assist the Baxley Fire Department with traffic control at a structure fire on MLK Avenue. On arrival the officers set up and maintained traffic control points for hours while the Baxley Fire Department personnel who were assisted by other county fire personnel from other fire departments battled the fire to the Mile Berry Farm Plant. This incident is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s office.
-June 22 at approx. 8:35 a.m., met with a city worker at a Holmesville Avenue address in reference to an interference with the city’s water system incident. On arrival the worker told officers that the water had been cut off at the residence and tagged and when they checked it they discovered that person(s) unknown had cut the tag and turned the water back on. Cited in this incident was Ignacio Pina, 41, of Baxley, on charges of one count of interference with water system.
-June 22 at approx. 10:19 p.m., met with a complainant at Westwood Apartments located on Donnie Lane in reference to a theft. On arrival the complainant told officers that persons unknown had removed his bike sometime during the night. The bike is described as a 21-speed, mountain bike, silver in color. It will have duct tape on the seat and has 26" wheels.
-June 24 at approx. 11:23 p.m., responded to the Southern Express convenience store located on North Blvd. in reference to an alarm going off. On arrival the officers, observed that a door was busted out to gain entry into the business. The officers immediately took position to secure the business and check for suspects. Finding no suspects the officers stood by until a key holder arrived and took charge of the business. Reported taken during the burglary was a pack of Game Two for the Dough lottery tickets and several Philly cigars.
