Appling Deputies have busy week

Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.

On June 5, answered a call to Central Street in reference to trespassing. Vacant house had been broken into no damage, nothing missing or out of place was reported.

June 5, answered a call to Hwy. 15 and Hwy. 203 in reference to a domestic.

The altercation occurred in a vehicle between acquaintances traveling through Appling County.

June 6, answered a call to Hatch Parkway N. in reference to harassing phone calls. A person has been calling leaving obscene messages on phone and coming to a personal residence knocking on the door.

June 6, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report an unruly juvenile. A father and son got into an altercation. The son hit the father. Father did not want to press charges or pursue the incident.

June 6, answered a call to Jekyll Road in reference to a domestic disturbance. The disturbance was between a husband and wife. Jesus Munoz, age 28, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

June 7, answered a call to Golden Isles East in reference to financial fraud. The complainant lost their driver’s license and Sears credit card. Three attempts had been made to use Sears card. The complainant cancelled card. Investigation continues.

June 8, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated her 14-foot green aluminum boat was missing from her pond.

June 8, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report a check fraud scam. The complainant was contacted and told she had inherited a large sum of money but had to send some money for taxes owed on the inheritance. The complainant sent some money for taxes. The complainant has received two checks and deposited them. Bank notified complainant the checks were fraudulent.

June 8, answered a call to Chad Claxton Street in reference to harassment. A complainant stated a known person has been following him around town and riding up and down the road on which he lives.

June 8, a complainant came to sheriff’s office to report harassing phone calls. The complainant stated she had met a young man at a mall in Savannah and gave him her cell phone number. He has called and text messaged her over 127 times in two days.

June 9, answered a call to Mincey Lane in reference to a welfare check. The responding officer had been told two small children had been left at home alone while the mother of children was at the river. The officer went to home to check on children and children were found to be asleep. DFAC’s on call worker was called and case turned over to DFAC’s.

June 11, answered a call to Poole Road in reference to an abandoned vehicle. The vehicle was left in roadway blocking area. The owner was unable to be contacted resulting in the vehicle being towed.

June 11, answered a call to Golden Isle West in reference to a dispute. The dispute was over vehicle being repossessed.

June 11, answered a call to Eula Courson Road in reference to a theft. Thhe complainant stated she was notified that her grandson had tried to cash a check on her. Complainant further stated she had not given her grandson any checks. Rocky Wayne Jacobs, age 23, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with forgery in the first degree and theft by receiving stolen property. Also arrested was Shafia Leigh Murphy, age 25, of Baxley. Murphy was charged with forgery in the first degree and theft by receiving stolen property.

June 12, answered a call to Old Surrency Road in reference to a juvenile problem. The parent reported her daughter had gone to the grocery store and suspected that she was with her boyfriend. The parent stated the girl was not in danger but wanted the daughter to call her.

June 12, while a deputy was attempting to serve a warrant on Lennox Road some suspected drugs were located inside an offender’s belongings. Arrested was Henry Mikel Brown, age 40, of Baxley. Brown was charged with possession of marijuana, theft by taking and forgery in the first degree.

June 12, answered a call to Hwy. 203 in reference to a one-vehicle accident.

A vehicle struck a hog on roadway. No injuries were reported.

June 13, answered a call to Dunn’s Lake Road in reference to a possible suicide attempt. Victim was taken to the Appling Emergency Room for treatment.
