Lillie Grey Godfrey Stewart, 88, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008 in the Henry County Hospital. She was born Nov. 2, 1919 in Appling County to the late S. E. “Doc” and Zadie Oglesby O’Quinn. Lillie was a member of First Methodist Church and was a 1938 graduate of Baxley High School. She was a homemaker and a retired seamstress. Ms. Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Godfrey.

Survivors include her husband, C. M. Stewart of Jonesboro; three daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl and Phil Miles of Baxley, Linda Townsend of Hazlehurst and Janice Godfrey of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Cathy Godfrey and James and Sally Godfrey, all of Baxley; one sister, Evelyn Reddish of Brunswick, one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Nettie O’Quinn of Baxley; two step-sons, Dr. John Stewart and wife, Paula and Jimmy Stewart, all of Jonesboro; seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14 at Swain Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Brad Park and the Rev. Rick Brown officiating. Burial followed in Omega Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Ronnie Williamson, Ricky Williamson, Steve Wynn, Eddie Wynn, George O’Quinn, Charles O’Quinn, Ronald Williamson and Jimmy Carter.

Honorary pallbearers were members of Baxley Police Department, Appling County Sheriff’s Department and the employees of Baxley Post Office.

Musical selections were rendered by Sandra Nettles.

Swain Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
