The Appling County Pirates basketball team finished the regular season as the fifth seed in region action. After a few wins late in the season, the Pirates carried momentum into the region tournament. During the tournament, the Pirates defeated Pierce County, Benedictine and Long County before falling to the Buc’s of MCA. Earning the second seed from region 2AA allowed the Pirates to face a third seeded opponent in round one of the state playoffs. In that game, the Pirates hosted and defeated Mitchell County in what was a well-played competitive playoff basketball game. After picking up the win, the Pirates would be on the road for round two.
The Central Macon Chargers (15-8) would be standing between an elite eight appearances for the Pirates. The Chargers defeated the Pirates by a score of 73-47. For the second consecutive season, the Pirates exit the playoffs in round two, with the loss the Pirates final mark for the season was 22 wins against only nine losses. Congratulations to Coach Pete Aycock and staff, team members and supporters for an outstanding season.
