Sheriff Benny Deloach would like to report the following incidents handled by deputies with the Appling County Sheriff’s Department.
On Feb. 27, a routine traffic stop on Polly Ogden Lane resulted in the arrest of Michael Bernard Davis, 19, of Baxley. Davis was charged with simple possession of marijuana.
Feb. 28, answered a call to Hwy. 144 at Rachael Church in reference to an armed robbery. A complainant stated he stopped to help a car with the hood up. A white male asked to use his cell phone, when the complainant turned his back to go to his vehicle to get the cell phone, the offender pushed him down and put something in his back and took $280.00 from his front pocket. He was also instructed not to move. The offender left in a black Hyundai with no tag. Investigation continues.
Feb. 28, answered a call to Buckhead and County Farm Roads in reference to a horse in the road. Kelly Bird and community service workers had caught the horse before the responding officer arrived. The owner of the horse was notified and it was transported to his residence.
Mar. 1, answered a call to Appling Emergency Room in reference to a gunshot wound to the hand. The victim stated while unloading his pistol it went off and hit him in the palm of the hand.
Mar. 1, a routine traffic stop on West Barber Street resulted in the arrest of Gainus Jamarco Floyd, 28, of McRae. Floyd was arrested and charged with DUI and possession of crack cocaine.
Mar. 3, during a routine traffic stop on U.S.#1/Sellers Cemetery road resulted in the arrest of William B. Carter, 22, of Baxley. Carter was charged with possession of drug related objects and a tail light violation.
Mar. 3, a complainant was spoken to by phone, and stated an unknown person had used his social security number to obtain a credit card and charged $2,300.00 to the card. Investigation continues.
Mar. 3, Appling County Sheriff’s office received a tip from a citizen that Twan Lee had a T.V. stolen from Wal-Mart. The investigation revealed that the T.V. was in-fact stolen from Wal-Mart and it was stolen by Shafia Kent Murphy. Warrants have been taken out on both subjects for the theft of the T.V.
Mar. 3, responding officers assisted Jeff Davis Co. in serving a felony burglary warrant on Golden Isles West, which resulted in the arrest of Victor A. Aca, 22, of West Harrison, NY. Aca was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana.
Mar. 4, answered a call to Barney Lewis Road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated between Feb.21, 2009 and Mar. 4, 2009 an unknown person(s) entered his shop and took his 2001 Honda Four-trax 250 four-wheeler, red in color, valued at $2,500.00. There were no tracks left due to the rain. Investigation continues.
Mar. 4, answered a call to Pine Street Extension in reference to a fight. Tamika Nicole Thomas, 31, of Baxley, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Also arrested was, Brian Keith McCall, 24, of Baxley, and McCall was also charged with disorderly conduct.
Mar. 5, a passing motorist stopped at Spring Branch General store to report smoke coming from a house trailer across the road. The responding officers and Baxley Fire Department went inside the residence and advised there was no one inside the residence. The residence belongs to Mathew Blake.
Mar. 6, while officers were attempting to serve a warrant on Golden Isle West, Jamie Garcia, 34, of Baxley was arrested and charged with obstruction of an officer.
Mar. 6, a routine traffic stop on Altamaha School Rd., resulted in the arrest of Richard L. Hartley, 26, of Hazlehurst. He was charged with possession of marijuana and a seatbelt violation.
