According to Appling County Sheriff Benny Deloach, on Saturday, Mar. 7, 2009 at approximately 3:30 a.m., 911 received a call from a citizen who reported someone had robbed him at gunpoint.

The incident occurred at a residence off U.S. 1 north of Baxley. The victim advised 911 that he was following the suspects into town and gave a description of the vehicle including the tag number. Baxley Police Officers spotted the vehicle and gave chase. The chase lasted several minutes involving several city streets and alleys before the vehicle was stopped.

At that time three suspects were immediately apprehended. One additional suspect jumped from the vehicle just prior to stopping, fled on foot and is still at large. Information was developed to identify this subject and warrants have been issued for his arrest as well as the individuals taken into custody at the scene.

Taken into custody were Rodrekus Pittman, Duriel Hines and Demian Shaw, all of Jesup. The victim, Steven A. Bell, of Baxley, was treated and released from Appling Healthcare System for injuries he received during the robbery. Investigation revealed both victim and suspects had been at a local club prior to the incident.

Sheriff Deloach expresses his thanks to the Baxley Police Department for their quick response and assistance in this case.
