On Thursday, October 22 the First Congressional District member of the Georgia Board of Education held a public hearing at the Appling County Board of Education. Zechmann, who lives in Waycross, opened the meeting with a meet and greet and gave a little information about herself and her position. Zechmann then opened the floor to questions from the crowd. One of the main questions asked was concerning the reported budget cuts at the beginning of 2010. Zechmann stated that at the end of September 2009 the State of Georgia revenue was down 16% and it does look like there will be more cuts coming.
