Sheriff Benny DeLoach would like to report the following activity of the Appling County Sheriff’s Office.

On Nov. 5 deputies answered a call to Chad Claxton road in reference to a theft. A complainant stated unknown person(s) had stolen an I-Pod from vehicle. The I-Pod was valued at $100.00.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Gardner Road in reference to an accident. A driver of a four-wheeler was running cows in pasture and lost control of four-wheeler. Four wheeler flipped several times and landed on driver. Driver was transported to Appling ER by Appling EMS. James Googe, age 73, of Baxley, died on Saturday, November 7, 2009 as a result of injuries in the accident.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Smart Road in reference to a burglary. The complainant stated unknown person(s) entered residence and took approximately $400.00 worth of loose coins, a Marlin 30/30 with a Bushnell scope valued at $250.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Golden Isles East in reference to a theft. The complainant stated that unknown person(s) had taken from his rental house two stoves, one black sink, one pull out leather sleeper sofa, four lazy boy chairs, two sofas, one computer desk and five chandeliers. Total value of items taken was $10,700.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Lennox Road in reference to a theft. The complainant stated unknown person(s) stole his 42 inch 24 horsepower Husqvarna riding mower. Mower is valued at $2,000.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 6, answered a call to Edsel Smith Road in reference to child custody. An ex-Husband stated ex-wife refused to let him have his son for visitation. The complainant was advised to see his attorney.

Nov. 7, a routine traffic stop on U.S. 1 South and Howard Brannen Road resulted in the arrest of Fred Arthur Davidson III, age 34, of Baxley. Davidson was charged with expired tag of decal, defective windshield wipers and VGCSA/crack cocaine. The passenger of the vehicle, Michael Thomas Weeks, age 49, of Baxley, was also arrested and charged with VGCSA/crack cocaine.

Nov. 8, answered a call to Wright Drive in reference to a domestic dispute. The complainant and subject were arguing. When officer arrived subject stated he would leave the residence.

Nov. 8, answered a call to Bethel Freewill Road in reference to a theft. The victim stated she noticed her purse was gone when returning home after visiting some friends.

Nov. 8, answered a call to Poor Robin Road in reference to an accident. A witness stated that a vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and driving erratically. The vehicle left the roadway loosing control of vehicle striking several pine trees. The driver of the vehicle had left the scene before officer arrived. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen from a local business. The owner of the vehicle was notified.

Nov. 9, answered a call to Nails Ferry Road in reference to an overdose. The victim stated he was depressed and took an overdose of pills. The victim was transported to Appling ER .

Nov. 9, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to children burned in an explosion. Two juveniles were left outside by a burn pile in the yard. It appeared that aerosol cans exploded and caused burns to both juveniles. Juveniles were transported to Appling County Emergency Room by Appling EMT’S. DFAC’s worker was notified and case was turned over for follow up. At this time no charges are being filed pending further investigation. Children were transferred by air to Augusta Burn Center.

Nov. 10, answered a call to Piney Bluff Road in reference to a domestic dispute.

The dispute was between an ex-husband and wife. The ex-husband had left the scene before officers arrived.

Nov. 9, answered a call to Lake Chapel Road, Bristol in reference to a theft. A complainant stated that a chainsaw was taken from residence that is being remodeled. Chainsaw is a 029 Farm Boss with a twenty-inch bar, orange and white in color, valued at $800.00. Investigation continues.

Nov. 11, officers did a welfare check at the residence of 22 Alderman Street, Surrency. As a result of the welfare check, Andy King, Jr., age 37, Surrency, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

Nov. 11, answered a call to Hatch Parkway South in reference to an attempted burglary. A complainant stated an unknown person (s) had attempted to break in an office door of his business. No entry was gained and nothing was missing at time of report.

Nov. 11, answered a call to Graham Zoar Road in reference to a runaway juvenile. The mother stated her daughter had not returned home after a school activity. The mother called later and stated her daughter had returned home.

Nov. 11, during a traffic stop on Hwy 341 checking for a runaway juvenile, resulted in the arrest of Thomas Noel Price, age 20, of Baxley. Price was charged with possession of marijuana.

Nov. 11, answered a call to Blackshear Hwy in reference to a gas drive off. A complainant stated an unknown person pumped $8.75 worth of gas from his gas station and drove off without paying. The vehicle was a gold SUV. Investigation continues.

Nov. 12, answered a call to Patterson Road in reference to a domestic dispute. The dispute occurred between family members.

Nov. 12, answered a call to Cauley Road in reference to a domestic dispute. A verbal dispute occurred between a husband and wife. The wife left the residence to end the dispute.
